Update—CPM Solutions Website

Since CPM launched its new web site at the beginning of November ‘08, there have been more than 18,000 visits to the site as at the end of April’09. Surprisingly, there have been visits from many countries around the world. Since we started selling our e-Learning 102 course in November/08, 35 people have registered to take the course for the 90 day period. The Free Resources section of the web site is very popular.

Our new online e-learning courses include in-depth content and the convenience of learning at your own pace. These courses are not intended to replace the instructor led courses but to complement them. They are ideal for people who are interested in refresher courses.

Oracle-Primavera Announces New Project Management

Software Names And Configurations

The P6 Web Client is now called Primavera P6 Web Access.

The P6 Windows Client is now called Primavera P6 PowerClient.

The P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management (EPPM) bundle includes PM PowerClient, Web Access portfolio analysis, capacity planning, progress reporting/timesheets, Java APIs and Web Services APIs. If the customer is a first time Oracle-Primavera user, a minimum of 10 P6 EPPM bundles must be purchased.

Example: If a customer already has 3 of the previously sold P6 Level 4 bundles (Windows Client, Web Access and Timesheets) they will have to purchase a minimum of 7 P6 EPPM licenses to get them up to the minimum of 10 P6 EPPM licenses.

Primavera P6 Professional Project Management (PPM) includes the P6 PowerClient only. PPM licenses can be purchased in single or multiple quantities. Please contact your CPM representative for pricing.
 

P6 Users Are Asking How They Can Make Data More Visible and Accessible 

P6 users often want to define:

  • What data is critical to the determination of their risk?
  • What is the risk factor associated with not having access to the data?
  • What is the ROI of having access to the data in reports and/or dashboards?

Most P6 PowerClient users are well aware they can access their data directly in the database or by printing up to 200 reports which come with the software. Any standard report writer can be used to custom build reports.
P6 offers three additional ways to access the data:

  • Web Access Module
  • Web Services Module
  • Business Intelligence Reporting Database

P6 Web Access Module of P6 EPPM

The P6 Web Access module comes with the following tabs allowing interactive access to information rich P6 data:  Projects, Portfolio Analysis, Capacity Planning, Resource Management, Dashboards, Collaboration and Administration. Web Access also includes Document Management, Work Flow Analysis functionalities.  For example, Web Access users can manage their operations via an unlimited number of information rich Dashboards.

 

P6 Web Services Module

P6 Web Services is an inexpensive way for users who are not licensed for P6 EPPM or P6 PPM to have view only access to applications created using P6 Web Services and/or 6 Java APIs. This also means P6 Web Services can be used to retrieve and publish important Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) from P6, ERP back-end systems and VisionMonitor and other Environment Management Information Systems.

P6 Business Intelligence Reporting Database

The Enterprise Reporting databases provide two unique solutions: the Operational Data Store (ODS) for day to day operational views and a Project Star Schema for advanced business intelligence. While mirroring all of the data found in the Project Manager database, the enterprise reporting solution provides organizations with the ability to create unique reports on any project or portfolio including audit trail reports. The reporting databases are compatible with 3rd party reporting P6 BI tools in turn support any reporting strategy.  Leveraging Primavera application security, the reporting databases protect data by providing virtual walls between business units and users.

To provide data movement between the project management database and the reporting databases an ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes is employed. PMDB data is extracted, calculations applied in a staging area and then loaded into the ODS and Star Schema databases. The ETL scheduling provides cyclical  refresh capabilities down to the day and an on-demand refresh for real-time data freshness.

Mahdi Beheshtian

CPM Solutions is pleased to welcome Mahdi Beheshtian as an Intermediate Level Consultant at CPM. Mahdi Beheshtian, a BA Sc., MA Sc. in Project and Construction Management, and holder of a Certificate in Project Management, has experience in various areas of construction and project management such as project planning/coordinating, cost estimating and control, scheduling, 3D and 4D modeling. He also has experience as a field engineer and supervisor with varied expertise in the construction industry, experience with different aspects of engineering and technical communication including report preparation, professional and graphical presentations, experience with Autodesk Architectural Desktop (ACad) and NavisWorks 4D modeling software, experience with Primavera (P3), Primavera Project Management (P6) and Microsoft Project.

Mahdi is familiar with pertinent concepts in construction management such as the principles of engineering economics and finance, network and linear planning, earned value analysis, resource management and risk analysis.
