Business Case - Short

A business case captures the reasoning for initiating a project or task. It is often presented in a well-structured written document, but may also sometimes come in the form of a short verbal argument or presentation. The logic of the business case is that, whenever resources such as money or effort are consumed, they should be in support of a specific business need.

Project Scope Statement

Scope statements may take many forms depending on the type of project being implemented and the nature of the organization. The scope statement details the project deliverables and describes the major objectives. The objectives should include measurable success criteria for the project.

Lessons Learned Report

Throughout each project life cycle, lessons are learned and opportunities for improvement are discovered.  As part of a continuous improvement process, documenting lessons learned helps project teams discover the root causes of problems that occurred and avoid those problems in later project stages or future projects.  Data for this report was gathered by surveying the project team and stakeholders.

Post Mortem

The purpose of the Post Mortem Report is to describe in detail the specific activities that were most effective and those that need adjustments prior to the next test project.  A goal of the document is to inform future project teams of the obstacles encountered during this release. These activities will focus upon identifying the following:

  • Processes which need adjustment
  • Most effective Processes
  • Providing Action items

Project Charter

A project charter or project definition (sometimes called the terms of reference) is a statement of the scope, objectives and participants in a project. It provides a preliminary delineation of roles and responsibilities, outlines the project objectives, identifies the main stakeholders, and defines the authority of the project manager. It also serves as a reference of authority for the future of the project. As such having a good understanding of how to write a project charter is a key skill for any project manager to have.
