What will happen to my databases if I reinstall Primavera Project Management?

Your databases will not be affected if you re-install.

Whenever you re-install Primavera P5/P6, the installation will overwrite only the P5/P6 software and not the databases.  You data and projects will still be accessible from the newly installed software.

Why doesn't the [BL1 Start] column data match the [Start] column data when the Baseline is set to "Current Project"

When the Baseline is set to "Current Project", you might notice that activities with actual dates are not getting the right baseline.

Here is the solution:

1. Open Project Management Application, Click [Admin] menu, then select [Admin prreferences...].

Does P6 support MS SQL Server 2008?

Primavera does not offically support MS SQL 2008 yet, at least Primavara has stated that P6.2 does not support MS SQL 2008.

I ran many tests against MS SQL Server 2008 running on Windows Server 2008, I found P6.0, P6.1 and P6.2 have no problems connecting to MS SQL Server 2008 if P6 Client is runnning on Windows XP/Vista/Windows Server 2003 (32bit or 64bit). The only exception is that  if you run P6 Client in Windows Server 2008, the dbexpsda.dll and dbexpsda30.dll file should be version 4.25.0.8 or higher.

Does P6 support MS SQL Server 2000?

P6.0 does support MS SQL Server 2000.  But since P6.1 or later, Primavera does not run on MS SQL 2000 any longer.  You will have to upgrade to MS SQL 2005.

Can I import my project from MS Project 2007 to P6?

Primavera P6.0 and P6.1 does not support importing MS Project 2007 based projects.

However, if you are running P6.2, Microsoft Project 2007 files can be imported into Primavera, however, not using Microsoft's .mpp file format.  In Microsoft Project 2007, the project must first be saved as a .xml file.  It can then be imported into P6.2

Please contact us if you have questions or need assistance with importing Microsoft files into Primavera.

Why do I get a permission error when I try to import P3 projects into P6?

I am trying to import a file from Primavera P3.0 format to Primavera 6.1 and I get this error.  I am hoping that it is because it is a 3.0 file not a 3.1 file that is the cause.  As you can see I have many P3 projects and they all react the same way with the same error.

P3_to_P6 error

From the screenshot above, we can conclude that a missing permission is the cause of this problem.

Can I import a P6.2 .xer file into P6.0?

The answer is yes, here is the trick:

1. Using Windows File Explorer, right click your P6.2 .xer file.  Select "Open With" from the menu, and select "Notepad" to open the file in the Notepad editor.

What's The Deal with Groups Bars and How WBS Summary Activities Can Help

Group Bars are a great tool to summarize activity data in Primavera, but there are some nuances to be aware of, especially if your project uses different calendars to schedule work.  In the tutorial, I'll explain in-depth how the Group Bars summarize activity data and some of the settings involved.  I'll then explain how a little-known activity type, the WBS Summary activity can help you summarize projects with multiple calendars.
